WELL, L👀KIE HERE!! What's inside this week? ⚓Coastcare Raffle - win some fab prizes ⚓Back to Gym before 2026? (We may have to revise our planned NY resolutions 😜) ⚓Coochie Crochet Club - the true quiet achievers ⚓💥NEW💥December Winner of the $50 Voucher from the Coochiemudlo Island Beach Bar and Grill! ⚓ From the Helm⚓
Ahoy there, island crew!
If you’ve felt a bit of a breeze under your sails this week, it’s not just the sou-easter picking up, it’s Coochie humming along like a well-trimmed vessel.
First off, Coastcare has officially hoisted the Christmas Raffle flag. You’ll spot the crew selling tickets at the jetty Friday arvo and again at the shiny new Enviro Hub on Saturday morning. Be sure to catch them on the way to your monthly brekky with the Mens Shed before the wave of folks flow into the Op Shop for the Christmas Sale! With prizes like a Weber Baby Q and a treasure chest of locally donated goodies, it’s the kind of raffle that makes you feel good even before you win. Every ticket helps keep our dunes, birds, beaches and bushland shipshape… a proper island-lover’s win-win.
Over at the Rec Club gym, the volunteer deckhands have been hard at it. The gear’s been shifted, the walls are about to get a fresh coat, and we’ve officially welcomed Jacquie Sanders aboard as the new Gym Coordinator. Once the last lick of paint is dry, there’ll be a call-out for more helping hands to scrub, sanitise and polish her up so we can throw the doors open again. She’s not seaworthy just yet — but she’s definitely back on course.
And then there’s the Coochie Crochet Club. Our quiet artists of the high seas. No fanfare, no fuss, just beautiful yarn-bombed treasures appearing like friendly mermaids along the shoreline. The Heart Tree standing strong, the mischievous She Tree greeting jetty-arrivals, Bluebeard the Pirate guarding Main Beach, and the Patchwork Tree brightening the dog beach… each one adds a little magic to the island, like colourful buoys guiding you home. So here’s the truth from the helm — this island runs on wind, water and a ridiculous amount of community spirit. Whether you’re planting trees, lifting gym gear, crocheting pirates or just cheering from the sidelines, you’re part of what keeps this place afloat.
Stay kind, stay steady, and keep an eye on the horizon.
Until next tide,
Editor, Coochie Community Online

The Trees Got Dressed — And Coochie Loves It🧶 |
The Coochie Crochet Club have been quietly working their magic again, decorating several trees along the foreshore 🌊🌴
Wander a little further and you'll find the She Tree 🌸 tucked near the rotunda. She’s become a bit of a celebrity, often stopping visitors in their tracks as they come off the jetty and wonder, “Well hello… what’s this then?”
Bluebeard the Pirate 🏴☠️ sits proudly on the west side of the jetty at Main Beach, a magnificent beast guarding the shoreline. And up where the pooches run free, the Patchwork Tree 🐾 brings a burst of colour and whimsy to the dog beach.
Each one is a little masterpiece 🎨 created by Coochiemudlians who prefer to let the work speak for itself.
Thank you, Coochie Crocheters, for brightening our shores with your beautiful creations 🌟. We appreciate it (and you) more than you know. |

Join Coastcare for the final working bee of the year |
Help celebrate National Coastcare Week on the Melaleuca Wetlands Beach on Saturday 6 December for the final working bee of the year. We’ll be doing what we can to shore-up what's left of the dune-face and weed along the way. |
Coochie’s Art & Book Fundraiser is coming up — and it’s shaping into a gorgeous community afternoon. Local artists have donated stunning pieces valued up to $600 each, and for just $5 a ticket you could walk away with your favourite artwork while helping restock our island library with much-needed new books. The event is on Saturday 13 December from 12.30 pm in the annex next to the library, with tea, coffee, nibbles and a fun “pick-your-prize” draw. It’s wholesome, it’s local, and it’s very Coochie. |
