⚓ From the Helm⚓
If you’ve wandered down to the jetty lately, you’ll know it’s been humming like a fishing boat engine that’s had one too many espressos. Holiday crowds are gearing up to sail in, the winds can’t decide what game they’re playing, and the island is stretching awake for the festive season whether we’re braced for it or not.
Our community spirit is full steam ahead. The gym restoration is almost shipshape, volunteers keep appearing like dolphins off the bow (honestly, if volunteer power were fuel, we’d be running a whole fleet), and this weekend’s Christmas markets are looking like a real deck-shaker. If you’re planning to shop local, snack local, and catch up on the island grapevine — now’s your chance.
So take a breath, steady the sails, and enjoy the glorious chaos. It’s nearly December on Coochie, that magical time when everything is a bit wild, a bit wonderful, and unmistakably ours. And if you can’t find me… I’m still out there searching for LAST December!
With school holidays bearing down on us like a fast incoming tide, I’m putting together a “what’s on where” guide for Coochie kids. If you know of extra Pickleball sessions, special activities, or anything that’ll keep little islanders busy and happy, send it through on Messenger or email editor@coochiecommunityonline.com.
Onwards we go — the tide’s rising, and the festive fun is rolling in with it.

Wow! THAT was intense! 🌩⚡🌀 |
That Storm on Monday… What Actually Happened?South-East Queensland copped an absolute belter this week. We’re talking giant hail the size of mangoes, wind gusts cracking past 100 km/h, trees down everywhere, roofs peeled back like sardine tins, and more than 2,000 SES callouts. Insurance companies have already declared it a full-blown catastrophe. It wasn’t your average summer storm. This one was a supercell with attitude. 👉 Tap to read what made this one so intense — and when we last saw anything like it. |

Christine Leonard 📖 |
Local author Christine Leonard has just released her most Coochie-soaked book yet, Coochiemudlo: A Mariner’s Mystery — a fascinating dive into the life of Ted Jones, the quirky historian who proved our island was the true “sixth island” charted by Matthew Flinders. It’s part biography, part island time-capsule, and a brilliant reminder of how much Coochie has changed (and how much we owe to the people who quietly shaped it). See more… |
