⚓ From the Helm⚓
OK, it’s got to be said — who here is still looking for last November?
As much as it irks me to admit it, where in the seven seas has this year sailed off to? One minute we’re trimming our sails for the start of the year, and suddenly we’re staring down the barrel of Christmas again.
When 17-year-olds are saying time’s flying by, you know it’s travelling at warp speed when you’re 60! I swear the calendar pages are flipping faster than a southerly squall.
So, Halloween has drifted astern for another year, pumpkins have been retired, and now it’s full steam ahead to Christmas.
Do you dive headlong into the festive season, or prefer to drop anchor somewhere quiet and peaceful? Is the pressure already mounting for the latest gadget, gizmo, or glittery must-have? Or are you tempted — as I often am — to tell the young ones that when your Grammy was a kid, she got an orange and a hankie for Christmas? And if she was really lucky, the hankie had her name embroidered on it!
OK, enough rants from the wheelhouse! Time to steady the helm, take a deep breath, and sail gracefully into November.
Until next tide, Editor, Coochie Community Online

🚗 Mainland Parking: Time to Act |
Coochiemudlians have battled for over TWO DECADES to secure acceptable parking on the mainland... |
For more than two decades, Coochiemudlo Islanders have battled the same frustrating reality — not enough parking on the mainland at Victoria Point, and more fines than fixes. With new developments now approved on the island, locals are asking: how can Redland City Council keep adding homes without first solving the mainland access problem? Read the full story, see how far back this issue goes, and find out exactly how you can make your voice heard 👉 [Read more...] |
Remembrance Day 2025
Global Reflection & Aspiration for PEACE
Each year, on the same day and at the same time, people around the world pause, united in honour, remembrance, and hope for lasting peace. 🕊
This year, that shared silence carries extraordinary meaning, marked by TWO 80- years long milestones .
2025 marks 80 years since the end of the European and Pacific campaigns of World War II. It’s a milestone that invites us to reflect not only on the immense sacrifices made, but also on the enduring resilience and courage that shaped the generations who followed.
Here on Coochiemudlo Island, the echoes of that history are close to home. Many of our long-time residents endured the Luftwaffe’s London Blitz of 1940–41 and the other horrors of wartime Europe and the Pacific. Now in their late eighties and nineties, these members of our community carry living memories of a world forever changed.
For them - and for us - Remembrance Day 2025 holds profound significance.
This year also marks the 80th Anniversary of the War Widows Association — a poignant reminder of those who bore the quiet burdens of loss with grace and dignity.
And fittingly, according to the 2021 Census, Coochiemudlo Island holds the distinction of being the oldest community in Queensland — and indeed, in Australia.
That legacy of longevity gives special depth to our remembrance, linking the wisdom of age with the endurance of spirit that this day represents.
Commemorating Together
The Special Remembrance Day Commemoration Service will be held at the Coochiemudlo Island Memorial. We invite all residents and visitors to join us in reflection, remembrance, and unity.
Service begins at 10:45am.
Mainland visitors are encouraged to take the 10:00 or 10:30am ferry at the latest to ensure arrival before the service begins. Local residents using the community bus should plan to arrive at the memorial by 10:30am (early bookings essential PH: ).
So as the world once again pauses together on Remembrance Day 2025, our island community will stand proudly;
Remembering, Honouring, and Aspiring toward Global PEACE.

The first of the seasons storms has hit! 💨🌀⚡⚡⚡ |
Thanks Nick Obrien for these spectacular pics of the first storm of the season. While we were lucky enough to avoid the damaging hail stones that impacted further inland, it seems Coochiemudlians enjoyed some decent rain and a light show that rivalled Riverfire. |
