Coastcare's Quiet Contribution to Flinders Day |
Working behind the scenes so history can take centre stage. |
While many visitors to Flinders Day will come to watch the historic re-enactment of Matthew Flinders' 1799 landing, there's another story unfolding quietly behind the scenes.
This week, Coochie Coastcare volunteers spent a crisp afternoon tackling weeds and tidying the Norfolk Beach foreshore, helping prepare the area ahead of the celebrations on Saturday 18 July.
It's a wonderful example of local community groups working together. The Coochie Heritage Society brings history to life through the annual re-enactment, while Coastcare ensures the natural setting is just as memorable. Most people attending will never know how many hours went into preparing the foreshore, but they'll certainly enjoy the results. A huge thank you to all the Coastcare volunteers who rolled up their sleeves to help keep one of Coochie's most beautiful locations looking its best.
The Matthew Flinders landing re-enactment begins at 11.30 am on Norfolk Beach during the Flinders Day Markets on Saturday 18 July 2026. Come for the history, enjoy the markets, and take a moment to appreciate the volunteers whose work helps make the whole experience that little bit more special. 🌿⚓ |
