Building resilience on Coochie |

Calling all island parents and young lifesavers!
One of the best things about raising children on Coochie is the freedom they enjoy.
They can ride to the BMX track with their mates, climb the cottonwoods at Morwong or chuck a line from the jetty. It’s the kind of childhood many mainland kids can only dream about.
Of course, that independence is equal parts wonderful and mildly terrifying. They’re having an adventure, while parents are quietly thinking, But what if something happens?
These school holidays, Redland City Council’s Community and Recovery team is giving local children the chance to learn what to do in an emergency, with a FREE First Aid Course delivered by Lifesaving Hands. đź“… Tuesday, 29 September
Designed for children aged 6 to 12, this fun, hands-on two-hour session will introduce them to:
The session is designed to build confidence and help children feel capable of responding calmly and effectively if something goes wrong. Parents are very welcome to join in too. If you have a younger child who would love to participate, please contact me before the day. Every child will take home:
It will be fun, family-friendly and possibly one of the most useful adventures your child has these holidays. Because island kids already know how to explore. Now they can learn how to help when it really matters.

Honestly wish the mainland offered this for free too! Island kids get all the perks.
Will there be any stuff about snake bites? We’ve seen so many lately.
For once, something my older and younger kids can do together. Thank you!
This is great, but I hope they’ll teach kids it’s ok to call out for help too. Sometimes mine panic and freeze.
Good on the council for making it free. So important but lots of families couldn’t afford it otherwise.
My son is so excited for this, he keeps practicing CPR on his teddy now!
Nice idea. Is it ok if my 5 year old tags along with her big sister?
Love this! Wish they did something like this when I was a kid.
