Native Raspberry

You’ve probably seen this one 🍓

Scrappy little plant.

Slightly prickly.

Hanging out in bushy areas minding its own business.

Then one day… it’s covered in tiny raspberries.

And suddenly it’s very popular.

The good bit (literally)

The fruit is edible. And actually quite lovely.

• Small red berries
• Sweet with a bit of tartness
• Very “wild version of a raspberry”

They’re not huge, and you won’t be making jam for the whole island…
but if you find a handful, you’ve had a good day.

The not-so-glamorous reality

• The plant can be a bit prickly
• The berries are small (no supermarket-sized expectations here)
• Birds are faster than you

So if you spot ripe ones… don’t overthink it 😄

What to leave alone

• Leaves and stems → not really part of the menu
• Unripe fruit → sour enough to make your face do weird things

And same rule as always:

If you’re not 100% sure, don’t eat it.

Why this one’s a bit of a winner

Unlike some native edibles that require a botany degree and a small prayer…

This one actually looks like what it is.

A raspberry.

Which makes it one of the easier “gateway plants” into noticing what’s edible around you.
