A wonderful morning to mark World Migratory Bird Day on island with Conservation Volunteers Australia and local bird expert Frank Burch a member of Birds Queensland and the Queensland Wader Study Group.

After a fascinating presentation on the extraordinary journeys of migratory waders we headed to the north-eastern mudflats armed with binoculars and telescopes for an hour of bird-watching.
We spotted the magnificent Eastern Curlew and Bar-Tailed Godwit along with Oystercatchers, White-faced Heron, Great and Little Egrets, Little Heron, Mangrove Gerygones, Torresian Kingfishers, Brown Honeyeaters, Caspian Terns and Pacific Koel while our resident White-bellied Sea-Eagle and Brahminy Kites soared overhead.

Events like this remind us why protecting Coochie's wetlands, mudflats, mangroves and foreshores matter so much!

Glad they spotted so many, but are the mudflats staying protected?

Would have loved to see the Eastern Curlew out on the mudflats.

I've seen the sea-eagle over Coochie, but never an Eastern Curlew. Would have been a great morning!
