Tucked along Victoria Parade, something quietly wonderful has been happening… and if you haven’t noticed it yet, you’ve probably walked straight past a tiny hub of connection, curiosity, and community spirit. Meet Robyn’s Book Nook.
Started by local resident Robyn Markwell, this charming community library at 402 Victoria Parade has quickly become a favourite stop for islanders of all ages. And not just for the books.
At first glance, it’s a beautifully set-up little book exchange. But linger for a moment and you’ll see what’s really going on. Families stopping mid-walk. Kids crouched down, carefully choosing their next adventure. Visitors flicking through pages. Locals leaving handwritten notes in the logbook like they’ve just stumbled into something a bit special.
And honestly… they have.
Robyn has put a strong focus on the children’s section, guided by a simple but powerful belief (with a little help from Dr Seuss):
Over the school holidays, that belief came to life. Robyn shared how lovely it was to watch families connecting, chatting, swapping books, and taking a moment out of their day to just… be together. No screens. No rush. Just stories and sunshine.
And it’s not just a one-way street.
The Nook is being kept alive by the community itself, with locals generously dropping off books and contributing to the growing collection. It’s that quiet, unspoken Coochie magic. You build something small… and everyone leans in to make it matter.
Robyn says it best with her heartfelt thanks to everyone who’s visited, donated, and left messages. Because while it may look like a bookshelf on the side of the road, it’s actually become a living, breathing exchange of stories, kindness, and connection.
So next time you’re passing 402 Victoria Parade, slow down. You might go for a book…
