There’s something slightly magical that happens when a group of ordinary humans start singing together.
Not “Australian Idol” magical.
And that exact kind of joyful chaos is heading to Coochie with the Coochie Sings Chorale Workshop, led by the wonderfully talented Mundy-Turner duo. Yes, they are very well versed in this sort of thing. I’ll see myself out. 🤣
For those who’ve never experienced a chorale workshop before, it’s not about being a polished performer. Nobody’s expecting you to emerge as the next X-Factor sensation after a weekend of singing. Although admittedly, confidence levels around Sunday afternoon can become wildly optimistic.
What these workshops are about is connection. Real connection The kind that happens when voices blend together, barriers drop away, and a room full of people suddenly starts feeling like a community instead of a collection of individuals.
It’s surprisingly powerful. Science backs it too, apparently. Singing together releases all sorts of lovely brain chemicals linked to bonding, wellbeing and happiness. Basically, group singing is cheaper than therapy and comes with better snacks.
People who’ve attended Mundy-Turner workshops before often describe the experience as a kind of “high.” Not in the suspicious Byron Bay festival sense. More in the “I haven’t laughed this much in ages” sense. And honestly, if there’s anywhere built for high-vibe community energy, it’s Coochie.
We already live surrounded by sea breezes, sunsets, neighbourly chats and ferry friendships. Now imagine what happens when a hall full of islanders & friends starts harmonising together. Even the people convinced they “can’t sing” usually end up belting out choruses by the end of the weekend.
My personal prediction?
The workshop runs: 📍 Community Hall, Victoria Parade South All are welcome. Shower singers. Car karaoke professionals. Secret opera enthusiasts. The “I only sing after two wines” crowd. Everyone.
Come for the music.
