A new Coochie Photography Group is bringing local photography enthusiasts together to learn new skills, share ideas and discover more of the beauty sitting right outside our doors.

The initiative is being organised by local photographer Noel Christensen, who is generously gifting his time, knowledge and talents to the community.

And no, you don’t need an expensive camera or a suitcase full of mysterious lenses. An iPhone/Android and a curious eye are more than enough.

More Than Point and Shoot

Stepping outside with a camera changes the way we experience our surroundings.

Suddenly, we notice the morning dew clinging to a leaf, the golden light filtering through the trees or the colours spreading across the bay just before sunset.

Photography encourages us to pause, slow down and look more closely at the incredible little moments happening around us every day.

The Coochie Photography Group will be a place for local enthusiasts of all experience levels to learn, experiment and have a bit of fun together.

Online Learning and Real-World Get-Togethers

The group will offer several ways for members to connect:

📷A private Facebook group for online training, photography challenges and friendly competitions

📷A Messenger group for conversation and organising photography outings

📷Occasional gatherings at the Coochie Recreation Club, including equipment displays, swaps and exhibitions

Members will also be able to access instructional videos from Phone and camera experts, share techniques and ideas, receive constructive feedback and steadily improve their photography.

The idea isn’t to chase technical perfection. It’s to help one another take better photographs while enjoying the process.

The Wonder Is Already Here

Some days, the most striking photograph might be a bird lifting from the jetty. On another, it could be the pattern of shadows across a bush track or the last ferry crossing water turned orange by the setting sun.

That’s the lovely thing about photography. It reminds us that we don’t always need to go somewhere new to discover something extraordinary.

Sometimes we just need to look at home differently.

So, grab your camera or phone, step outside and see what catches your eye. There may be a whole new side of Coochie waiting just beyond your front door
