When a boat sank off Coochie and debris began washing onto the beach, the response was immediate.

Jordy and Adrian were on it, STAT!

They quickly began tackling the wreckage and clearing debris before it could spread farther along the shoreline or be carried back into the bay.

Their fast action helped turn an upsetting environmental mess into a community clean-up almost as soon as it happened.

A huge thank you and acknowledgement must go to them both for seeing what needed to be done and getting stuck straight in.

Kate then helped carry the clean-up through to completion by parking her ute near the beach and inviting others through the Coochie Community Facebook group to add the remaining debris.

Later, she shared:

“Look at us goooooo!!!! I don't think anything else could have fit on that ute safely if we tried! She's been taken to the dump today and emptied, and the beach is clear again.

 

Huge thank you to everyone who helped, and who played Tetris with what was already in there so more could fit. When we have more wash up, I'm happy to leave the ute down there another day and do this all again.”

 

It was a brilliant combined effort, beginning with Jordy and Adrian’s immediate response and continuing with Kate and the many locals who collected, carried and somehow fitted an astonishing amount onto one ute.

The sinking was unfortunate, but what followed showed Coochie at its best.

People noticed. People cared. And people acted ❤️

Thanks to Jordy, Adrian, Kate and everyone who helped, the debris was removed, the beach was cleared and our environment protected.
