After rain and warmer weather, Coochie’s waterways may soon be busy with more than frogs.

Cane toads lay their eggs in long, jelly-like strings, usually just under the water’s surface. They can hatch in as little as two to three days, so spotting them early matters.

If you find eggs, tadpoles or adult cane toads, Watergum is asking people to record what they remove. Those reports help track cane toad activity and guide efforts to protect our native wildlife.

Just be sure you’ve identified what you’re looking at before removing it. Native frogs live here too, and nobody wants to mistake a frog’s eggs for a toad’s.

Glad Watergum is tracking what's removed. It helps to know whether all this effort is making a difference!

Two to three days to hatch? That is quick! I'll be checking the water near our place after the next rain.
