A Burger, a Token and a Little Help for Coochie’s History

If you’re heading through Victoria Point this September, there’s a simple way to support Coochiemudlo Island’s history. And yes, it involves eating a burger.

Tough assignment, really

The Coochiemudlo Island Heritage Society has been selected to participate in the Local Matters community program at Grill’d Victoria Point throughout September 2026.

Every customer who orders a meal at Grill’d receives a Local Matters token.

Simply place yours in the jar marked Coochiemudlo Island Heritage Society, and your vote will help the Society receive a share of the program’s community funding.

More than old photographs and dusty records

The Heritage Society has been caring for Coochie’s stories since 2000, preserving the people, places and events that have helped shape the island we know today.

Its work includes looking after the island’s historical collection, sharing information through educational displays and bringing local history to life at community events.

Much of that history could easily disappear if nobody took the time to collect it, record it and pass it on. Sometimes the smallest details tell the biggest stories, and there are still a few tucked away around Coochie waiting to be rediscovered.

Here’s how you can help

If you visit Grill’d Victoria Point during September:

• Order your burger or favourite meal.
• Collect your Local Matters token.
• Pop it into the Coochiemudlo Island Heritage Society jar.

That’s it. No forms, no fundraising pitch and no rummaging around for spare change.

Every token helps demonstrate that our island’s history matters, not only to those who remember it, but to the generations who will call Coochie home in the future.
